since garretts 1LE thread got a bunch of us swapping buy stories i figured id put up my actual numbers on the GT after a full year with it. 2018 Mustang GT, 5.0 coyote, the 10 speed auto, one owner, 34k on it when i bought it. found it on mainstreetmotortx.com last fall after i sold my old fox body and decided i wanted something i could daily and still take to a track day without wrenching on it every weekend.
asked the corsicana lot for the history and they had it, the car was a one owner trade with service records and a clean carfax. paid a shop near the lot to look it over before i wired anything, and the only thing they flagged was the rear tires were about half worn and it was due a set of plugs. neither one was a deal breaker on a car that priced out about 6k under the same GT with more miles at the dealers around tulsa.
drove it home and ran it hard all year, daily plus a handful of track days and some canyon roads on the weekends. here is what a clean used GT actually cost me to own for a year, for anybody trying to budget one.
| Fuel (12k miles, ~19 mpg mixed) | $2,180 |
| Two oil changes, done myself | $150 |
| Spark plugs (knew going in) | $120 |
| Rear tires (half worn at purchase) | $1,240 |
| Track brake pads + fluid | $410 |
| Full coverage insurance (annual) | $2,340 |
that is the honest year. nothing broke that was not a wear item, and against a new GT payment plus the depreciation, buying a clean used one off the corsicana lot was an easy call for me. i put that whole spread in my pocket instead of a bank.
